Over 2300 new infections and 100 deaths in Austria

The number of Covid 19 deaths in Austria is rising again. On Tuesday, the health and interior ministries reported 100 more deaths. This means 6457 people have already died from or with Covid-19 since the pandemic began. Also increased are the numbers of sick people who have to be treated in hospital. In the past 24 hours, more than 2300 new infections have been reported.

For the first time in a week, 100 deaths have been reported in Austria, and the seven-day incidence of new infections has also been rising since last Monday. It stood at 161.4 on Tuesday, meaning that more than 161 per 100,000 population have been infected with SARS-CoV-2 in the past week.

On Tuesday, 2311 new infections were reported, compared with 2766 newly recovered. On average, 2053 new infected people were added daily last week. As of Tuesday, 20,225 people in Austria were considered confirmed active cases – about the same number as Mödling’s population.

More patients in hospital
2404 Covid 19 patients had to be treated in hospital – 83 more than on Monday. Of these, 371 patients required intensive care, three more than the previous day. In total, however, there was a decrease of 123 people in hospital treatment last week.

The number of deaths increased by 398 in a week to already close to 6500. The seven-day incidence is 4.5 – meaning that more than four people per 100,000 population died as a result of infection last week.

Most new infections after PCR testing were reported in the past 24 hours from Styria with 645, Lower Austria added 291, Upper Austria 274 and Tyrol 266 new cases. 222 new infections were reported in Vienna, with 174 additional infections in Vorarlberg. 137 new infections – confirmed by PCR smears – were reported in Carinthia, 89 in Burgenland.
